Heavy Rainfall: Delhi MCD ordered immediate closure of 17 schools due to flood-like situation. Punjab has extended school holiday till July 17.

NEW DELHI: On account of Yamuna river crossing the danger mark and the chances of rain, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority has ordered closure of schools and colleges till July 16 in the national capital. The Noida administration and the Punjab government have also asked schools to remain shut.
The DDMA in a meeting held earlier today reviewed the flood-like situation in Delhi and advised work from home for private offices and non-essential government offices. Low-lying areas, including the Secretariat housing the chief minister's office, were flooded today.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) had directed 10 schools of Delhi's Civil Lines zone, 7 in Shahadra to be closed today, as per reports.
Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal said schools, colleges and universities will remain closed till Sunday. The Yamuna flowed at 208.53 metres at 10 am on Thursday, breaking the 45-year-old record, officials said, as per the PTI report.
The Gautam Buddh Nagar administration ordered all schools up to Class 12 to remain closed across Noida and Greater Noida on July 14.
"Due to the high level of water in the Yamuna after heavy rains and in view of chances of rain, the district magistrate has ordered closure of all schools of all boards on July 14," district inspector of schools Dharmveer Singh said in a statement.
Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) senior secondary school has also issued a circular informing students that school will be shut tomorrow as per the orders of the Directorate of Education, Delhi (DoE). However, all teachers and staff have been asked to come to the office by 8.30 AM.
The Punjab education minister today announced that the schools in the state will be closed till July 16 due to heavy rains. Earlier, the Punjab schools were shut from July 11 to 13. However, the state government has extended the school closure for another three days.
As per the instructions of Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Maan, considering the safety of students, the state government extends the holidays in all government, aided, recognised and private schools till Sunday. Normal classes will be held from Monday, he said.
