THANE: The schools in Thane district will remain closed till December 31 in view of the coronavirus situation, Collector Rajesh Narvekar said on Friday.

Though the pandemic is under control in the district there is fear of the second wave, so the reopening of schools was deferred, officials said.

Earlier, schools were supposed to start from November 23. Online classes will continue.

In a previous decision, Maharashtra State Government has made mandatory to undergo a RT-PCR test between November 17 to 22, 2020 for all teachers who will be attending the school before the school reopening.

Varsha Gaikwad, School Education Minister has also insisted that only one child will be allowed to sit on a single bench and classes will be held on alternate days.
