SRM Institute of Science and Technology wins seven distinguished awards

New Delhi: SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), Kattankulathur has won seven prestigious industry awards in the last 45 days. All these awards are of national and international importance. The institute organised a press meet to showcase the awards won by it in this very short span of time.

SRM Institute of Science and Technology has won STEM impact award, Green Metric Award, AICTE-CII IndPact Award for Best Industry-linked institution for Electrical Engineering and Allied Institute, University of the Year Award 2019 from FICCI and three Swachhata ranking awards from AICTE.

The press meet saw the presence of SRMIST President Dr. P. Sathyanarayanan, Vice-Chancellor of SRMIST, Dr. Sandeep Sancheti, Joint Director (Research) SRMIST Dr. SRS Prabaharan, Associate Director (Campus Life) Dr. V. Thirumurugan and Registrar SRMIST N. Sethuraman.

Speaking at the press meet, Sathyanarayanan said that “This is a special honour for our Institution as we have received seven awards in a short span of time.”

Other than this, Sandeep Sancheti highlighted the recent achievements of the institution, projects, research works, patents received, research centres, funded projects and technology transfers. He further added that “The Swachhata ranking awards were based on toilet adequacy and maintenance, garbage clearance system, hostel kitchen hygiene & sophistication of equipment, water purity, storage, distribution facility, campus greenery & rainwater harvesting, use of solar systems and villages adopted for hygiene.” He also highlighted that SRMIST is the only privately funded university to receive STEM (Society for Technology Management) Impact award.

The Institute received the STEM Impact award for innovation. The institute submitted three in-house technologies for the award out of which Microbial fuel cell for bioelectricity generation and heavy metal reduction from environmentally available biowaste won the award.

The next award which the institute received was Green Metric award for the category ‘World’s Most Sustainable University’. The institute has been ranked 243rd in GreenMetric World University Rankings and third in India.

Next, the institute received AICTE-CII IndPact Award for Best Industry-linked institution for Electrical Engineering and Allied Institute (Established-Degree). Around 9,832 institutes participated in the survey, out of which 39 Institutes were shortlisted for final presentation and EEE department of the institute was one of them.

SRMIST has also won ‘University of the Year Award 2019’ at the 6th edition of FICCI Higher Education Excellence Awards 2019. The award was given to the institute for being a multi-stream university with different dimensions of excellence like Faculty Development, Governance, Research, Patents, Impact on Society, Student Employability, etc.

Other than the above 4 awards, SRIMST received three Swachhata Awards. The institute has been ranked No. 1 under the category of AICTE-Residential Universities in the third edition of Swachhata Ranking Award, third in AICTE’s Clean and Smart Campus Awards and first in the AICTE’s ‘One student One tree’ campaign.
