THE World University Rankings 2024: IISc jumps to top 200 universities; 91 Indian institutes rank

Delhi University, IISER Pune moved one place up to 801-1000 band. JSS Academy of Higher Education lost its position.
NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore moved one position up to 201-250 band this year in Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2024. It is the only Indian institute to feature in top 250 universities.
Top institutes such as the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, IIT Dhanbad, IIT Patna, International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Hyderabad, Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT), NIT Rourkela, and NIT Silchar made it to the top 600 universities.
JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research went several places down to the 801-1000 band from last year’s rank in the 351-400 band.
Anna University made it to the top 600 universities while Jamia Millia Islamia retained its position. Kerala’s Mahatma Gandhi University and Shoolini University of Biotechnology and Management Sciences which made its debut last year came down from 401-500 band and 351-500 band respectively to this band in THE rankings this year.

Tamil Nadu’s Alagappa University also lost its position from 401-500 band to 601-800 band. Besides, 17 more universities featured in the 601-800 band including Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Bharathiar University, Jamia Hamdard University, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), KIIT University, Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Panjab University, Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences, Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, and VIT University.
Among these institutes, AMU and Panjab University improved their ranks from last year’s 801-1000 band.
Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Institute of Chemical Technology secured a rank in 801-1000 band while Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani, Lovely Professional University (LPU), NIT Tiruchirappalli retained their ranks.
Delhi University, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Pune, IIT Gandhinagar, IIIT Delhi, moved up to 801-1000 band while Delhi Technological University (DTU) came down to this position from last year’s positions in 601-800 band.
