NEW DELHI, SEPTEMBER 17: Dr. Shashi Tharoor, Member of Parliament, stressed on the importance of thinking globally while also having the betterment of India in mind during his address to the students at O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU).

He encouraged the youth to be unafraid of the expertise or the products of the outside world to build a better India for all.

“You will have on your shoulders the future of our Republic. You will think globally but you will also look towards India, whether new India or old India, it should be an India that you can help reshape into a better India for all,” he said, delivering a lecture to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of JGU at the university campus.

Talking of the demographic dividend of the country, Dr Tharoor encouraged the youth to utilize their strength for the betterment of the nation, “You represent a potentially dynamic, energetic, youthful population that could be the engine of the world when the rest of the world is ageing."

According to the United Nations, India has the world's largest youth population with 356 million people between the age of 10 and 24 years.

Putting the onus of nation development on these young minds, Dr Tharoor urged them to develop an open and inclusive society. He championed plurality as the greatest strength of the nation and urged the students to bring their creative energies towards the betterment of the nation.

Thanking Dr. Tharoor, the Founding Vice-Chancellor of JGU, Dr. C Raj Kumar, said, “For the past two decades, every aspect of his life and his journey is truly remarkable, a journey with a lot of hard work, determination amidst extraordinary trials and tribulations.”
