NEW DELHI, DECEMBER 18: National Testing Agency (NTA) is conducting UGC NET 2018 examination for December session from December 18 to 22. The exam is being conducted for 9.5 lakh candidates across 598 centres in 91 cities. The examination is being held in online mode for the first time in December, since NTA has taken on the responsibility of conducting the examination. Earlier, the exam would be held in offline mode. While filling the application form of UGC NET 2018, candidates were required to select four exam centres in the order to their preference. Thus, the candidates are taking the examination at the centres allotted to them according to their filled choices.

As per the press release of NTA released on December 17, 2018, 'for the first time, CCTV Surveillance is started in examination centres to curb malpractices in the examinations. The NTA is making arrangements for live viewing at remote location and recording CCTVs Systems of all examination centres at control room situated in the NTA.'

The examination authority has also installed about 40,000 jammers at various examination centres to curb malpractices. Control Room has been opened and 24 State Coordinators, 295 City Coordinators and 742 Observers have been positioned at various examination centres.

UGC NET 2018 for December session is being held for two papers – Paper I and II. Paper I is being conducted for all candidates, as a common paper, while the Paper 2 is being taken by only candidates in their respective subjects as per their educational background.

Paper I is being held for 100 marks where candidates have to answer 50 questions. Candidates will get 2 marks for each correct answer in Paper I. There is no negative marking. In Paper II, candidates have to answer 100 questions for 200 marks. This means that each correct answer will fetch them 2 marks. Like Paper I, Paper II also does not have negative marking.

Earlier, the admit card of UGC NET was released on November 19 in online mode. Candidates can still download it till December 22.

As NTA is conducting the exam in online mode, the answer key for it may not be released. UGC NET result for December session 2018 is scheduled to be out on January 10, 2019.

Apart from the exam being held in online mode from December 2018 onwards, the other change in the exam is its exam pattern which has changed too. According to the new pattern, UGC NET now has only 2 papers – Paper I and II whereas earlier it would be held in 3 papers – Paper I, II and III.
