NEW DELHI: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has postponed the Civil Services preliminary examination 2024 due to the schedule of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The UPSC CSE prelims exam 2024 will now be held on June 16, 2024. Earlier, the exam was scheduled to be held on May 26.

"Due to the schedule of the impending general election, the commission has decided to postpone the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination 2024 which also serves as a screening test for the Indian Forest Service Examination, 2024 from May 26 to June 16,” the commission said in official notification.

The UPSC recruitment drive aims to fill a total of 1,056 vacancies, with 40 seats reserved for the Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD) category. Within the PwD category, 6 vacancies are reserved for blind and low vision candidates, 12 for deaf and hard of hearing, 9 for locomotor disabilities including cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims, and muscular dystrophy, and 13 vacancies for multiple disabilities.

Candidates belonging to the general category will receive six attempts to clear the UPSC CSE exam while other backward classes (OBC) categories, persons with benchmark disability (PwBD) candidates will have nine chances to qualify the exam. Candidates from scheduled castes (SC) and scheduled tribes (ST) will be allowed to appear for the exam an unlimited number of times.
