VIT donates Rs 1.25 cr for victims of Gaja cyclone

NEW DELHI, DECEMBER 3, 2018- Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT ) has extended financial assistance of Rs. 1.25 crores to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. This initiative has been taken by the university to help victims affected by Gaja Cyclone, especially in the coastal and central districts of the State of Tamilnadu. With this aid, VIT aims to help Tamil Nadu government in order to rescue and rehabilitate people affected by the cyclone. 

A cheque was handed over to the Chief Minister Edappadi K.Palaniswamy by Dr G.Viswanathan, Founder and Chancellor of VIT. The amount has been mobilized by students, parents, staff and non-teaching staff. 

VIT has always strived to stand in the forefront to extend help to downtrodden and underprivileged sections. It has also mobilized resources and financial assistance for people who have been severely affected by natural calamities. 

Earlier, the university, had mobilized relief materials worth Rs. 24 lakh during the massive damage caused by the floods in Kerala. VIT also gave Rs. 1 crore as relief amount to the state then with Dr Viswanathan handing over a cheque for the amount to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
