NEW DELHI, NOVEMBER 04: West Bengal Public Service Commission (WBPSC) has released the notification of West Bengal Civil Service (WBCS) 2020 on November 04, 2019 on its official website pscwbonline.gov.in. The online application form of WBCS will be available to fill from November 5 and the preliminary exam will be conducted on February 9, 2020. WBPSC has not mentioned the number of vacancies in its official notification but it has mentioned the posts and pay scales. The exam is conducted to recruit candidates for different posts in group A, B, C and D. Group A and B services will be in the pay band of 4A while Group C and D will be in pay band 4 and 3 respectively.

Who can apply?

Graduate candidates who can read, write, speak in Bengali and abide by the age limit between 21 to 36 years of age can apply for group A and C. Candidates whose age fall between 20 to 36 years can apply for Group B (WB Police Service). Candidates who wish to apply for Group D posts should age between 21 to 39 years. The age calculation will be as per as January 1, 2020.

What is the application fee?

The application fee for all posts is Rs 210. While candidates belonging to SC, ST and PWD categories are exempted from paying any fee. The last date to apply and pay the application fee is November 25, 2019.

What is the exam pattern?

The WBCS exam will be conducted in 3 levels - Preliminary exam, Mains exam and Personality test.

The preliminary exam will be conducted across 20 centres in West Bengal. The prelims exam will comprise of eight sections and will have 25 marks per section. The questions in the preliminary exam will be based on English composition, general science, current events of national & international importance, history and geography of India (majority of which will be based on West Bengal), Indian polity and economy, Indian national movement and general mental ability.
