NEW DELHI, AUGUST 23: The number of women students has shown a whopping increase of 36 per cent across streams at IIT Guwahati. The number swelled to 153 in the current year as compared to 112 in 2018.
This increase also meant that 18.46% of students in the institution are women, thus surpassing the projected target of 17% set for 2019-20 by JEE Apex Board Committee. The committee had set such a target for all the IITs to address the under-representation of women students in these premier institutions.
IIT Guwahati’s efforts have seen success with a gradual increase in female students from 50 in 2015 to 153 in 2019.
Congratulating the institution for the achievement, Director T. G. Sitharam also took the opportunity to announce four new courses at IIT Guwahati, “Given the rising demand and interest of students in disruptive technologies, we at IIT Guwahati have introduced four new programmes for the academic session 2019-2020.”
“The new programs comprise three international joint degree programs with Japan's Gifu University, including International Joint PhD degrees,” he added.
