THE World University Rankings 2024 by subject released; IISc, Anna University, LPU top performers in India

Globally, THE World University Ranking 2024 has been dominated by Stanford University, MIT, Harvard University, Oxford University and Cambridge University.
NEW DELHI: The Times Higher Education has released the THE World University Rankings 2024 by subject. Indian Institute of Science has been the top university in the country in several subjects while globally Stanford University and Harvard University have emerged top in most of the subjects.
Other Indian universities that have made it among the top include Anna University, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Jamia Millia Islamia, Lovely Professional University and Aligarh Muslim University.
World University Rankings 2024 Engineering
As many as 76 universities from the country have been included in the THE World University Rankings 2024. Indian Institute of Science has been ranked in the 101-125 slot. It is followed by Anna University in the 301-400 slot. Three universities – Jamia Millia Islamia, LPU and Shoolini University – have been ranked between 401 and 500. Aligarh Muslim University, IIT Guwahati and Jaypee University of Information Technology are in the 501-600 slot.
Harvard university is ranked top globally in this category. It is followed by Stanford University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Oxford University and Cambridge University. THe ranking included five streams – general engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, mechanical and aerospace engineering, civil engineering and chemical engineering.
World University Rankings 2024 Computer Science
IISc Bangalore has emerged at top in this category also among the Indian universities. A total of 48 Indian institutions have been included in this category. Four Indian universities – Amity University, Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT Hyderabad), Jamia Millia Islamia and KIIT University – have been placed in the 401-500 slot.
University of Oxford is the best university for computer science as per the list. It is followed by Stanford University, MIT, Carnegie Mellon University and ETH Zurich.
Arts and Humanities
Only two Indian universities have ranked in the THE World University Rankings 2024 arts and humanities category. Both Delhi University and Jawaharlal Nehru University are placed in the slot 501-600. The subjects included in the category include performing arts and design, art, languages, linguistics history, philosophy, theology, architecture and archaeology.
The list has been topped by Stanford University globally. It is followed by MIT, University of Cambridge, University of Oxford and Harvard University, respectively.
Social Sciences
A total of 14 Indian universities have been included in the THE World University Rankings 2024 Social Science category. Lovely Professional University is the best institution in social science in the nation. It is placed in the 401-500 slot. Jamia Millia Islamia and Jawaharlal Nehru University have been ranked in the 501-600 category.
The category is led by MIT, which is followed by Stanford University, Oxford University, Harvard University and Princeton University. The subjects included to prepare the list are communication and media studies, politics and international studies, sociology and geography.

THE World University Rankings 2024 Law
No Indian institution has been placed in the THE World University Rankings 2024 Law ranking. Globally, Harvard University, Stanford University, Cambridge University, Columbia University and New York University are the top five institutions, respectively.
The ranking lists were prepared on the basis of 18 criteria of teaching, research environment, research quality, international outlook and industry.
