NEW DELHI: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has made the fee of 50 percent of seats in private medical colleges and deemed universities equal to the fee in the government medical colleges in the respective states and union territories.
“The benefits of this fee structure would be first made available to those candidates who have availed government quota seats but limited to the extent of 50 percent of total sanctioned strength of the respective medical college or deemed university,” said a statement from MCC.
According to the statement, if the government quota seats are less than 50 percent of total sanctioned seats, the rest of the students, on the basis of merit can pay the fee equal to the government medical colleges.
The NMC had issued the guidelines regarding the fees of the 50 percent seats in private medical colleges and deemed to be universities on February 3, under the NMC Act, 2019. According to the statement, an expert committee constituted by the NMC has examined about 1800 responses before submitting the revised draft regulation, which was accepted by the NMC on December 29. Under the revised regulations, medical institutions are not supposed to charge capitation fees from students.
