New Delhi : The finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget 2022 in Parliament today. To address mental health problems arising from the Covid crisis, Sitharaman announced the launch of the National Tele Mental Health Programme. The programme will be launched for mental health counselling with the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) and Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Bangalore as the nodal institutes.

Major institutions of medical education, including the All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) and Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) saw their budgets increase by a few hundred crore.

Only a good allocation was seen under the head ‘Establishment of New Medical Colleges and Increase of Seats in existing Government Medical College’ of Rs 2700 crores from Rs 4800 crores
