NMC : RK Vats resigns, Sandhya Bhullar is the new secretary

Dr RK Vats’ resignation from the post of the secretary National Medical Commission has been accepted as Dr Sandhya Bhullar takes charge of the post.

NEW DELHI: Dr Sandhya Bhullar is the new secretary of the National Medical Commission (NMC) the medical education regulator. She was appointed after Dr RK Vats’ resignation from the post was accepted.

Sandhya Bhullar is a 2003 batch IAS officer of Gujarat cadre. She was the joint secretary, department of economic affairs, before she took over the charge as the secretary, National Medical Commission on Wednesday.

Vats, an IAS from the West Bengal cadre 1986 batch had taken charge as the secretary, NMC, the then MCI in 2019. It was during his tenure NMC was formed which then replaced MCI.

There have been a number of changes after the formation of the new regulatory body NMC was formed including fixation of fees for medical studies.

Vats was also the additional secretary and financial adviser for the ministry of health and family welfare. He was also the chairman of the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA), the drug price regulator, from April 2018 to November 2018.
