AIIMS Jodhpur student found dead in washroom, Police suspects suicide

A first-year postgraduate student at AIIMS-Jodhpur was found dead inside a washroom in the hospital on Tuesday, with police suspecting it to be a case of suicide. The deceased was identified as Dr Raj Nilesh Yadav (31), a resident doctor in the Department of Anaesthesia. "He was on duty in the OT Tuesday. During break at about 1 pm, he came to his restroom but did not re-emerge to resume his duty," Station House Officer (SHO), Basni, Nitin Dave said.

His colleagues started looking for him and called him on his phone. They heard it ringing in the bathroom. When no one answered the call, the door of the bathroom was broken open, where Yadav was found lying on the floor in an unconscious state. He was rushed to the emergency room, where he was declared dead.

The SHO said that some syringes were found beside him in the washroom, and it is suspected that he injected himself with a lethal drug. "We informed his family members and are awaiting the post-mortem report," he said. According to police, no suicide note has been recovered from the spot so far. Police have taken possession of Yadav's mobile phone and are examining the device and other evidence with the assistance of a forensic team. The scene is also being examined in detail to establish the sequence of events, officials said. Police said they were looking into all possible aspects of the case and would take further legal action based on the findings of the investigation.
