AIMIM leaders meet Pralhad Joshi, seek comprehensive development of AMU Kishanganj Centre

AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, along with the party’s Bihar president Akhtarul Iman and other AIMIM MLAs, met Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi on September 16 to raise issues concerning the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Kishanganj Centre in Bihar.

The delegation held a detailed discussion with the education minister on funding, recruitment and the comprehensive development of the AMU centre. Issues related to Malegaon in Maharashtra were also raised during the meeting and the minister assured the delegation that efforts would be made to find a solution to the matters discussed.

The meeting followed a letter written by Owaisi to Joshi on September 16, seeking the Centre’s comprehensive development. In the letter, Owaisi appreciated the Bihar government for allocating land to AMU for establishing its centre in Kishanganj and emphasised the need to strengthen its academic and physical infrastructure.

Owaisi said Kishanganj is among the educationally and economically backward regions of Bihar and that a fully developed AMU centre could benefit students as well as the wider region.

Teacher recruitment at AMU

One of the key demands raised by Owaisi was the early sanctioning of teaching posts proposed for the Kishanganj Centre. AMU has proposed 29 teaching positions for the centre, comprising four Professors, six Associate Professors and 19 Assistant Professors.

The AIMIM president requested the Education Ministry to sanction these posts at the earliest, stating that the appointments would help strengthen the academic functioning of the centre. The delegation also raised concerns over restrictions linked to the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), which Owaisi said were affecting construction activities on AMU’s land at Kishanganj.

In his letter, Owaisi said the NMCG-related restriction was hindering construction at the centre. He noted that other government buildings had already been constructed in the same riverbed or riverine area and requested that the restriction applicable to AMU’s land be reviewed. He sought the removal or suitable relaxation of the restriction wherever legally and environmentally permissible so that essential construction work could proceed while complying with applicable statutory safeguards.

The delegation included Owaisi, Iman and AIMIM Bihar MLAs, including Aadil Hasan. The discussions focused on addressing the administrative, financial, recruitment and infrastructure-related requirements of the AMU Kishanganj Centre. The AMU Kishanganj Centre has been positioned by the delegation as an important educational institution for the region, with the AIMIM leaders seeking greater government support for its expansion and functioning.
