Allow full refund till November 10: AICTE to institutes
NEW DELHI: Giving a major relief to students enrolling in technical programmes, the All India Council for Technical Education, AICTE, has asked institutions to allow full fee refund to students till November 10. The AICTE circular has been issued keeping in mind the emergency situation due to COVID-19 pandemic.
The AICTE circular is applicable for all technical courses, except PDGM and PGCM ones.
As per the revised academic calendar issued by the AICTE, the last date for cancellation of seats of technical courses with full refund has been extended to November 10.
The AICTE circular states: “It is further stipulated that in the event of a student withdrawing before 10th November 2020, the entire Fee collected from the student, after a deduction of the processing Fee of not more than Rs 1000/- shall be refunded by the Institution.”
The council has also asked institutions not to retain the original school or institution leaving certificates of students. “Fee refund along with the return of Certificates should be completed within seven days of cancellation,” the circular reads.
It has also warned institutions of punitive action for violating AICTE regulations in this regard. It reads: “Kindly take note that AICTE has been empowered under Section 10(n) of AICTE Act to "take all necessary steps to prevent commercialization of technical education ‘Non-refund of fee after cancellation of admission, amounts to commercialization of education’.”
