Amity University launches MTech in Defence Technology to meet the requirements of the defence sector

NEW DELHI: Amity University has launched the country's first MTech programme in Defence Technology. The MTech in Defence Technology programme has been launched jointly by the DRDO and AICTE with a national mission of generating the talent pool of human resource required in the defence sector.

India is striving to augment self-reliance in defence technology including missiles, fighter aircrafts, drones, naval systems, combat vehicles, radars, sonars, higher energy materials and directed energy systems etc. Besides the R&D endeavors, manufacturing in the defence sector is getting a new boost with the announcement of two different corridors in Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

A number of MNCs are establishing their R&D and manufacturing industries in the defence arena. The Hon’ble Prime Minister’s Mission of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ in Defence sector will require a large number of highly skilled and talented pool of Engineers and Technologists.

MTech in defence technology will help in meeting the exponentially growing demand in the rising defence sector. This programme has been designed in such a way that post graduates will have the necessary theoretical knowledge, practitioner skills and aptitude in various defence technologies areas to carry out research, design and development, production, life cycle equipment sustenance, entrepreneurial (start-up defence), advisory and consultative roles in defence. Also, the expanded offering is designed to meet the market demand for talent with specialized technical and engineering leadership skills.

The MTech in defence technology by Amity University will focus on six subjects of specializations i.e Combat Vehicle Engineering , Aerospace Technology , Communication Systems & Sensors , High Energy Materials Technology , Naval Technology & Directed Energy Technology with an option of singular specialisation. This course will also provide a major opportunity for minor and major projects to be conducted in DRDO laboratories, defence PSUs & private industries for creating job ready defence technology professionals.

According to W Selvamurthy, President - Amity Science, Technology & Innovation Foundation (ASTIF), “this course is meant for students who have successfully completed B.Tech in Engineering & Technology domain and might be looking for the next future course of action to choose the Master’s program which will shape up their career path”

He further informed that the offerings of the course include a new distinct program to foster interdisciplinary education and research-courses aligned to the current and future needs of the defence industry. Amity has strong interface with DRDO, Defence Industries including PSU and private sector industries and the national & international collaborations with reputed universities across the globe. Amity is in a winning position to churn out this required talent of human resource in the defence field.
