Students who are not residing in Banaras Hindu University hostels will be required to pay guest charges if they choose to stay on campus.
NEW DELHI: In response to the ongoing situation in Bangladesh, Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has decided to extend the hostel stay of Bangladeshi students who have recently completed their courses at the university. As per the BHU official press release, this measure is aimed at providing support to students who are currently residing on campus and are facing difficulties due to the unstable conditions in their home country.
SVS Raju, coordinator of the international centre at BHU, announced that the university would allow these students to continue staying in the hostels without paying any additional fees. This decision comes as a relief for those who were initially required to vacate the hostels upon completion of their studies.
"Banaras Hindu University has decided to allow Bangladeshi passout students staying on campus to continue in hostels till the situation normalizes in that country. The decision has been taken in the interest of students who have completed their studies in the university and were to vacate hostels as mandated on the completion of the programme," read the official BHU press release.
Free accommodation
In a statement, Raju said that the decision was made considering the challenges that Bangladeshi students might face if they were to return home during the current crisis.“We have assured the students that in case they face any other difficulty during their stay on campus, the university will take necessary measures to address that. They may stay here till the situation normalizes in Bangladesh,” Raju said. He assured that the university would address any further difficulties the students might face during their extended stay on campus.
Guest charges for day scholars
Students who choose to remain in the hostels will not be charged any fees, however, those who are not residing in university hostels will be required to pay guest charges if they choose to stay on campus.
