BHU hosts 104th convocation; confers degrees to over 14,000 students

NEW DELHI: The Banaras Hindu University (BHU) concluded its 104th convocation ceremony at Swatantrata Bhawan. Over 14,00 degrees were conferred to students and a total of 34 medals were awarded to 30 students. The list of medals included Chancellor’s Medals, Maharaja Vibhuti Narayan Singh Gold Medals, and BHU medals.

According to the official BHU statement, the list of graduated students included 867 from PhD, 21 from MPhil, 5074 postgraduate, and 8110 undergraduate degrees. Besides, 544 medials are awarded to students at various degree distribution programmes.

The chairman and CEO of Zscaler, Jay Chaudhry delivered his address and said: “Don’t chase money, chase making a difference. A sense of accomplishment is what drives human beings”

Jay Chaudhry shared his personal journey, coming from a humble background to becoming a global tech icon. He recalled how his parents, from a small-scale farming family, struggled to make sure that their children got good education. He further said: "Adversity is a wonderful thing. Adversity makes you figure things out, what to do, and how to do it. We always come across opportunities. If you work hard, you do good things, good things happen to you. They may not happen every time, but nine out of ten times, for people who work hard and go the extra mile, good things happen to them. ”

BHU hosts 104th convocation

The Zscaler founder also acknowledged the increasing number of girl students being conferred gold medals, mentioning that India needs to realize the power of women.

The vice-chancellor Sudhir Kumar Jain shared the progress made by the University for its growth by nurturing talent, deploying resources, and building culture and governance. He mentioned the university’s initiatives for the holistic development of students, faculty, and staff and for promoting education and research.

The vice-chancellor also shared the progress made by the university in improving its alumni engagement and said that the university now has a database of nearly 62,000 alumni records, according to the BHU official statement.

The graduating students were sworn the pledges by the vice-chancellor and professor Arun Kumar Singh announced the names of the students who were presented the medals, the BHU statement adds.
