BHU: S N Sankhwar joins as 27th director of Institute of Medical Sciences

BHU IMS is an AIIMS-like institution and is in the process of upgrading its infrastructure, medical and research facilities, and patient care.

NEW DELHI: The Banaras Hindu University’s Institute of Medical Sciences (BHU IMS) got its new director today. S N Sankhwar assumed charge as the 27th director of the institute and was handed over the charge by officiating director S K Singh in the presence of senior functionaries of the institute, Sir Sunderlal Hospital and Trauma Centre.

Sankhwar will serve for a tenure of five years as director. Institute of Medical Sciences, BHU, is an AIIMS-like institution and is in the process of upgrading its infrastructure, medical and research facilities, and patient care as per the university.

Expressing his gratitude, Sankhwar said, “ IMS is a very prestigious institution in India and getting the opportunity to work with such a reputed one is a great honour. I will do my best to further add to the glory of the institute and I am confident that with the support, guidance and cooperation of my colleagues in IMS, I will be able to do so.”

K K Gupta, medical superintendent, Sir Sunderlal Hospital; Saurabh Singh, professor in charge, trauma centre; Ashok Chaudhary, dean research; Ankur Singh, deputy medical superintendent, SSH; Neeraj Tripathi, joint registrar, IMS, heads of departments; senior professors, doctors and staff were present during the joining of the new director.

Earlier, in the day Sankhwar visited the Shri Vishwanath Temple at the BHU campus and offered prayers. He was accompanied by his family and senior functionaries of the Institute of Medical Sciences.

According to BHU, Sankhwar is a urologist and head of the department of urology at Kings George Medical University, Lucknow. He was also functioning as the chief medical superintendent of KGMU.

The newly joined director has administrative experience and is known for his medical and academic accomplishments. His areas of expertise are general urology, male infertility, endourology, and female urology. At KGMU, he has been contributing in various academic and administrative capacities as per the university.
