NEW DELHI:The Bihar cabinet on Tuesday approved nearly 34,000 new teaching positions in higher secondary schools in different panchayats in the state.

The Bihar cabinet in a notification said: “For the higher secondary schools being set up in the different panchayats of the state, 32,916 higher secondary teaching posts and 1,000 computer teaching posts which means a total of 33,916 teaching posts are approved to be notified.”

The decision is part of Bihar Government’s plans to set up higher secondary schools in all panchayats as announced by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in November 2019.

Initially, the proposed deadline for setting up the schools was April this year but it has been pushed back due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.

The government aims to set up higher secondary schools in all 8,386 panchayats. According to an official order released in November, “higher secondary schools have been opened in 6,000 panchayats so far”.

Currently, the Bihar government is conducting online classes over television for Classes 9 and 10 through Doordarshan Bihar.
