New Delhi, April 25: Akshat Singh from Birla Vidya Niketan emerged as the winner of the fiercely contested 4th Korea-India friendship quiz competition organized in New Delhi. Devansh Panwar from Apeejay School, Sheik Sarai grabbed the second spot while Saumik Shashwat of Amity International School, Mayur Vihar and Devanshi Vashist, Delhi Public School, Vasant Vihar grabbed the third and fourth spot respectively. The top four participants won the opportunity to visit South Korea while 20 others won a cash prize of Rs.51,000 each and trophies.

At least 23,433 students from 60 schools of the National Capital Region participated in the competition, almost double the figure in the inaugural competition in 2016.

The competition was held in various stages resulting in 600 semi-finalists out of which 24 were selected for the final. These students were again screened to 8 highly competitive super finalists out of which the top four participants were ranked.

The winners were elated about the prospects of going to South Korea. “I have been a major K-pop fan since I was a child. This was a major part of my childhood. So, it was a dream of mine to always go to Korea,” said Devanshi Vashisht, who came in fourth.

Quiz competition tried to gauge the participants’ awareness of South Korea’s culture, history, and other general information. Republic of Korea’s ambassador to India, Shin Bong-kil and Kim Kum-pyoung, the Director of the Korean Cultural Centre India graced the occasion. The annual event is conducted by the Korean Cultural Centre to foster friendship between the two countries. “I do believe that they will be future ambassadors for the friendship between India and Korea and will help expedite the strengthening of bonds between the countries,” the ambassador said.
