BITS Pilani has received a one million US dollars endowment from its alumnus Brij Bhushan to support female students and promote faculty-guided student projects focused on real-world problems, the institute announced.

The endowment has been established by Bhushan, founder of Reston Consulting Group (RCG) and a member of the inaugural 1960 batch of BITS Pilani. As per the institute, the fund will be used to support meritorious students from low-income backgrounds and to encourage innovation through academic mentorship.

BITS Pilani states that the contribution aligns with its efforts to expand financial support for students and strengthen academic engagement beyond the classroom. The institute has launched an endowment fund with a target of USD 100 million as part of its plan to develop into a global higher education institution.

“BITS Pilani has set up a $100 Million Endowment Fund for fueling transformation into a global institution. Recently, it has shown significant growth across national and international ranking with strong performance in academic reputation, research quality, and student outcomes,” the institute said.

BITS Pilani scholarships and innovation support

Bhushan had a 24-year career in the US telecommunications corporate sector before establishing RCG in 1987. The firm provides network operations and maintenance, cybersecurity, enterprise architecture, IT support, and telecommunications services to government and commercial clients in the United States.

BITS Pilani further said the latest endowment will supplement existing scholarship schemes and support student-led innovation initiatives under faculty supervision. The institute also highlighted recent improvements in national and international rankings, citing performance in academic reputation, research output, and student outcomes.

Vice-Chancellor V Ramgopal Rao acknowledged the contribution and the role played by the Bhushans in academic and alumni engagement. “Prof. Brij Bhushan and Champa Bhushan have been true well-wishers of BITS Pilani, not only have they established this significant scholarship, but provided their valuable expertise through teaching on campus. Both Brij and Champa Bhushan have seen BITS transformation over the years, and we feel deeply moved by their belief in BITS ethos and mission,” he said.
