NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has dismissed the plea against offline board exams 2022 saying "let authorities take decision". Justice A M Khanwilkar said, "These petitions create false hopes, let authorities take a decision. You can challenge that order." The bench said they are not going to pass any order and asked what kind of PIL is this.

"This petition is ill advised, premature. Authorities are yet to take a decision for exam in respective boards. If decisions is not in accordance with rules & Act it will be open to aggrieved persons to set challenge in that regard," the bench added.

The bench further said, "This has to stop. Don’t come up again or there will be exemplary costs. Let students & authorities do their job. You can’t PIL like this. Whoever has filed we’re saying for that petitioner."
On Monday, the matter was mentioned for urgent listing before a bench headed by Chief Justice N V Ramana. The counsel had told the CJI-led bench that physical examination should not be conducted due to the pandemic. The bench had said that the matter would be listed before a bench headed by Justice Khanwilkar.

A plea was filed in the top court seeking direction to state boards, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE), National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) to adopt an alternate mode of assessment in Class 10, 12 board exams 2022 instead of conducting offline exams.
The petition filed through child rights activist Anubha Shrivastava Sahai also sought relief for conducting an improvement exam for those students who are not satisfied with the internal assessment.

It further sought to form a panel for deciding the formula of assessment of Class 10, 12 students including compartment exams and declaration of result on time.
Last year, CBSE and some state boards had cancelled board exams for 10th, 12th in view of the COVID-19 pandemic situation. The CBSE board declared Class 12 results on the basis of alternate evaluation criteria which included 30% weightage to Class 10 marks; 30% to Class 11 marks; and 40% to Class 12 marks. Whereas, CBSE Class 10 students were evaluated on the marks scored in different tests or exams conducted by the school in the course of the year.
