BSEB clarifies on new Bihar school holiday 2024 calendar; different list for general, Urdu schools

NEW DELHI : Bihar education department has issued a clarification regarding school holidays for the academic session 2024. It clarified that there will be no changes in the number of holidays this year and schools have always remained open and celebrated the birth anniversaries of great men. The education department made the clarifications after observing rumors around the recently released school holiday calendar 2024.

According to the holiday calendar, the summer vacation in Bihar schools will be for 30 days unlike 20 days last year from April 15, 2024 to May 15, 2024. All school heads, teachers and other staff will be required to be present in schools during the vacation.

“The holiday table for the year 2024 has been prepared by the education department. The basic principle behind making the holiday table is that all the holidays in the school have been decided by looking at the government holidays fixed for the year 2024 by the general administration department,” said the education department in an official notification.

The education department said that various types of rumors are being spread on social media regarding the holidays. The situation is that two separate calendars have been created for general schools and Urdu schools. “Perhaps this is the reason why this confusion regarding festivals has spread due to hasty reading of government notifications through social media and forming an opinion on them,” it added.

Besides, the education department issued the following clarification:

• Like previous years, this year also there has been no change in overall holidays.
• It is being propagated that holidays are not given in schools on the birth anniversaries of great men. It is clarified that in the past years too, schools have been opening during the birth anniversaries of great men and the birth anniversaries have been celebrated with pomp and show. For example – Gandhi Jayanti has been traditionally celebrated in schools for many years also.
• As far as other anniversaries are concerned, they all fall during the summer vacations, hence they have not been mentioned separately. It is clarified that schools will remain closed during these anniversaries.
• The change in the timing of summer vacation has been made in view of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2024.
