BSEB increases medical assistance funds for secondary teachers, non-teaching staff

The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) has increased the medical assistance provided to secondary school teachers and non-teaching employees under the teacher welfare fund. The decision was taken during a meeting of the teacher welfare fund sub-committee chaired by BSEB chairman D Tyagarajan SM.

According to BSEB, the revised financial assistance will provide greater support to employees suffering from serious illnesses or requiring urgent medical treatment. The enhanced benefits will come into effect under the existing BSEB teacher welfare scheme.

BSEB Teacher Welfare Fund: Revised medical assistance

As per the revised norms, teachers and non-teaching staff suffering from critical illnesses such as cancer, brain haemorrhage, heart disease, and kidney transplant-related ailments will now receive Rs 45,000, up from the earlier Rs 35,000.

How BSEB teacher welfare fund functions?

According to the official statement, BSEB said that applications for medical assistance are recommended by the concerned block education officer and subsequently by the teachers' association. Financial assistance is approved only after the committee considers the recommendations received.

The board also stated that the teacher welfare fund is financed through a 3% deduction from the remuneration paid to teachers involved in secondary examination evaluation work. The collected amount is used exclusively to provide medical assistance to eligible teachers and non-teaching employees.
