Cabinet launches One Nation One Subscription for research journals; access to over 13,000 e-journals

A total of Rs 6,000 crore has been allocated for the ONOS initiative covering three years 2025, 2026, and 2027. The funding will cover subscription charges for all institutions over the three years.

NEW DELHI: In alignment with National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 the central government has officially launched the One Nation, One Subscription (ONOS) initiative for eligible students, faculty, and researchers. Under this initiative, members will have access to top-tier international research articles and journals. The scheme aims to benefit over one crore students across the various disciplines.

All members will have access to over 30 high-end research journals through a simple digital process. The One Nation, One Subscription was approved by the Cabinet in November 2024.

The ONOS scheme covers more than 6,300 government-managed higher education institutions and central government-managed research and development institutions across the country. All members will have access to over 13,000 scholarly journals from 30 major international publishers.

According to the official press release, Rs 6,000 crore has been allocated for the ONOS initiative, covering the years 2025, 2026, and 2027. The funding will cover subscription charges for all participating institutions across these three years.

Additionally, the scheme will provide Rs 150 crore every year for the beneficiary authors to publish in selected, high-quality Open-Access (OA) journals.
