NEW DELHI: The Indian Institution of Management Calcutta (IIM Calcutta) will conduct the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2024 tomorrow, November 24. The CAT 2024 exam will be held in three shifts – first shift will be from 8:30 am to 10:30 am, second shift from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm and third shift from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm.

The IIM Calcutta has issued the CAT 2024 admit card at iimcat.ac.in. Candidates will require their registration ID and password to download the CAT 2024 admit card. Along with the CAT 2024 admit card, candidates are required to carry a valid photo ID on exam day for verification.

CAT 2024 exam pattern

The CAT 2024 exam will have three sections - verbal ability and reading comprehension (VARC), data interpretation and logical reasoning (DILR), and quantitative aptitude (QA). There will be a total of 66 questions in the CAT 2024 paper. As per CAT 2024 marking scheme, candidates will get 3 marks for each correct answer and one mark will be deducted for each incorrect response. There will be no negative marking for incorrect answers.

CAT 2024 Exam Guidelines: Do’s and don' ts

By maintaining discipline and adhering to the rules, candidates can ensure a stress free exam experience. Candidates can have a look at the CAT 2024 do’s and don’ts below.

Do’s

  • Plan your arrival: Reach the test center at least an hour before the reporting time to avoid last-minute stress. Check the admit card for reporting time and venue details.
  • Carry necessary documents: Bring your CAT 2024 admit card and a valid photo ID proof such as Aadhar card, PAN card, driving licence. Ensure the details on both match.
  • Read instructions carefully: Pay close attention to the exam instructions provided on the CAT 2024 admit card.
  • Follow the Dress Code: Dress in comfortable, simple clothing without metallic items to avoid unnecessary scrutiny.
  • Stay Calm: Manage your time wisely during the exam and focus on accuracy over attempting all questions. Use the on-screen timer to keep track.

Don’ts

  • Do not cheat: Any attempt to cheat, such as using unauthorized gadgets, communicating with others, or copying, will result in immediate disqualification and may lead to a ban from future CAT attempts.
  • Don’t leave the exam hall before time: Exiting the hall before the end of the exam is prohibited. Candidates must remain seated until the invigilator announces the completion of the test and allows dismissal.
  • Do not carry prohibited items: Electronic gadgets, study materials, paper chits, or even watches are banned. Carrying them can lead to expulsion from the test.
  • Don’t skip rough work submission: After completing the exam, ensure all rough sheets are submitted to the invigilators. Failing to do so can be flagged as a protocol violation.
  • Avoid guesswork: With a negative marking scheme, blind guesses can lower your score. Attempt only questions you’re reasonably confident about.
  • Don’t violate exam center protocols: Leaving your seat without permission, arguing with staff, or not adhering to invigilators' instructions can lead to penalties or disqualification.
  • No unauthorized actions: Refrain from tampering with the computer systems or using the keyboard unnecessarily, as this can trigger warnings or system locks.
