The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has started online submission of examination forms for private candidates appearing in the Class 10 and Class 12 examinations 2026-27. The board has issued separate notices for secondary school examination (Class 10) and senior school certificate examination (Class 12). CBSE examinations for private candidates will be held in February/March/April 2027.

For Class 10, the private examination form is for candidates whose results were declared essential repeat in the 2026 secondary school examination. It also covers candidates who were declared fail/essential repeat in the Class 10 examinations held in 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026.
Candidates who completed the regular course of studies and were allotted a roll number for appearing in exam but could not appear because of shortage of attendance are also covered by the eligibility criteria.

CBSE Class 12 private exam 2026-27 eligibility
For Class 12, candidates whose results were declared Essential Repeat in the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination can apply. The eligibility criteria also include candidates declared Fail/Essential Repeat in the Class 12 examinations held in 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026.
Candidates who completed the regular course of studies and were allotted a roll number for appearing in the Class 12 examination but could not appear because of shortage of attendance are also covered under the eligibility conditions.
Candidates placed in compartment category in one subject in 2026 can apply under the compartment category, subject to the conditions specified by CBSE. For improvement of performance, candidates who passed Class 12 in 2026 can apply for improvement in one or more subjects in which they appeared in the 2026 examination.
CBSE has stated that candidates can submit only one application form. The online system will accept applications according to the prescribed schedule, and applications will not be accepted in offline mode. Candidates are also required to provide a working and valid email ID for OTP verification.
The syllabus for the examination will be the syllabus prescribed for the year of examination. Candidates are required to fulfil the eligibility and pass criteria under the applicable curriculum and scheme of studies.
CBSE will allot a fresh roll number to candidates appearing in the 2026-27 examination.
The examination fee for Class 10 and Class 12 private candidates is the same for candidates in India, Nepal and other countries.

The normal fee submission window is October 8 to October 23, 2026, while candidates can submit forms with the late fee from October 24 to October 30, 2026.
Candidates are required to upload scanned JPG files of their photograph and signature while submitting the online application. The size of the uploaded files should not exceed 40 KB. The board has prescribed requirements for photographs, including a recent, full-colour and good-quality photograph.
For candidates seeking exemptions or concessions on medical grounds, the Board has prescribed additional requirements, including uploading a copy of the Medical Certificate (Disability Certificate) and submitting documents as specified in the notice. For more details, one can go to cbse.gov.in.
