NEW DELHI: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has asked for an enquiry into the matter of a private school in Gujarat leasing land to Swami Nithyananda Ashram without its permission. The school in question is DPS Maninagar, Mehmdabad Road, Ahmedabad.

Secretary CBSE has written to Directorate of Schools, State Education Department, Gujarat, to inquire into the matter.

CBSE has been asked to conduct the enquiry expeditiously and convey the outcome of the report and status of No Objection Certificate (NOC) issued by the Gujarat government to the school for seeking CBSE affiliation.

After the controversy broke out, the school cancelled the lease agreement of the land. DPS had provided the land to the ashram for a period of five years, apparently under a CSR scheme, and has asked for it to be vacated within three months.

Nithyananda a self-styled Hindu swami, who landed in controversy a few years back after an alleged sex tape appeared. Last year in June, a Karnataka trial court also founded him guilty of rape.
