Chandigarh University bags MAKA trophy 2024 for sports; wins 32 gold, 18 silver, 21 bronze medals
CU won a total of 71 medals and registered its name in the recipient list of national sports awards 2024.

The Chandigarh University has bagged the Maulana Abdul Kalam Aza (MAKA) trophy 2024 for Indian sports excellence on January 3. The MAKA trophy is awarded annually to universities for performing exceptional in the khelo India university games, a government of India initiative, as per the official document by the university.
During the Khelo India university games 2024, the Chandigarh University was able to secure 32 gold, 18 silver, and 21 bronze medals and finished at the top of the medal table by winning a total of 71 medals.
The Khelo India university games is a platform for young athletes in India to showcase their abilities. The Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA) trophy is one of the awards in the Indian educational and sports landscape. It is an initiative by the minister of youth affairs and sports, government of India. The trophy is a tribute to the Indian scholar, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the university said.
“The award highlights the dedication, talent, and tireless effort invested by universities in fostering sportsmanship, nurturing young talent, and developing the infrastructure required to produce world-class athletes,” the university further said.
“Chandigarh University’s victory in the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Trophy, with its top ranking in the Khelo India University Games, solidifies its position as one of India's premier institutions recognized for excellence in sports. This achievement is set to inspire other academic institutions across the country to prioritize sports alongside academics, fostering a more balanced approach to student development,” it added.
National sports awards 2024: Felicitation on January 17
The ministry of youth affairs and sports, government of India, has announced the recipients of the national sports awards 2024. The awards will be presented by President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhawan on January 17. Chandigarh University is one of the recipients in the national sports award 2024.
The purpose of the national sports awards is to honour outstanding individuals, coaches, universities, and organizations for their exceptional commitment and achievements in the field of sports, the university added.
