NEW DELHI: Chandigarh University (CU) announced that the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) has accredited the university's nine engineering programmes. CU Chancellor Satnam Singh Sandhu claimed that the university has the highest number of ABET accredited courses among private universities in India.

ABET recognises engineering programmes that meet the standards set by its technical profession to largely help students in career prospects.

“It is also globally recognized as the 'Gold Standard' for engineering education and signifies that a program adheres to the highest standards in preparing its graduates to work in a global workforce,” the official statement read. At present, the engineering courses of 10 universities are ABET accredited in India.

CU's 9 bachelor of engineering courses accredited by ABET are — aerospace engineering, chemical engineering, civil engineering, computer science and engineering, computer science and engineering (with specialization), electrical engineering, electronics and communication engineering, mechanical engineering and mechatronics engineering.

CU chancellor Satnam Singh Sandhu said: “Among the 3,500 engineering colleges and universities in the country, there are only a handful of institutes with ABET accreditation. However, the major milestone is that among the private universities, CU has the highest number of ABET accredited engineering courses which is nine.”

“The institution one receives education from makes a huge difference in the career of an individual. Graduates from ABET-accredited institutions have a strong solid educational foundation that meets global standards, and hence, enhanced employment opportunities. They can lead the way in innovation, emerging technologies, and anticipate the welfare and safety needs of the public," he said.

Further, he said that the university also ranked in the 771-780 band in QS World University Rankings 2024, among the only 45 universities that made it to the list this year. Chandigarh University was ranked 27th in India's top universities in the NIRF Rankings 2023.

CU offers more than 109 UG and PG programs in the field of engineering, management, pharmacy, law, architecture, journalism, animation, hotel management, commerce, and others.
