Christ University Bengaluru students win 1st edition of FinTech moot court

NEW DELHI: Christ University Bengaluru students won the first edition of the FinTech moot Court. The FinTech moot court was organised by the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS) and ‘Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co’ (SAM & Co). The event concluded on August 7 on the NUJS campus.

As many as 18 colleges from across the country participated in the FinTech moot court competition. The participants engaged in addressing the challenges associated with regulating private cryptocurrencies. Christ College won the challenge based on their arguments, research and presentation skills.

The final bench was presided over by Aftab Alam retired justice, Rajshekhar Rao, senior advocate; Gopal Sankaranarayan, senior advocate; Poornima Sampath senior vice president, Tata Digital and Shilpa Mankar Ahluwalia, partner and head FinTech, ‘SAM & Co’.

The winning team members of Christ University were offered internships by the company. The runner-up, best oralist, researcher, and memorial (respondent and claimant) were also awarded the internship at the company’s office in Delhi and Bengaluru.

After an exciting weekend of intensely contested rounds, many congratulations to the winners - Christ University, Bengaluru. We view this as a beginning and are committed to building this moot court competition into one of the most prestigious national moots going ahead."

NK Chakrabarti, vice chancellor, NUJS said, "The NUJS-SAM FinTech Moot is a first-of-its kind competition in the emerging area of FinTech law and is a testimony to NUJS-SAM relationship. The initiative has sparked the interest among students in the challenges associated with virtual and digital transactions.”

The winners from Christ University, Bengaluru, exclaimed, "We are extremely thrilled to win this prestigious title and has been a remarkable experience to present in front of esteemed judges.”
