NEW DELHI: The Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) has reduced the syllabus of Classes ICSE 10th, ISC 12th for the academic year 2021-22. Students can find the new syllabus and semester plan on the official website, cisce.org.
The council has decided to divide the 2021-22 academic session into two semesters with a 50% syllabus covering each semester. The decision was taken by the council after considering the continuing disruption of educational activities and the closure of schools due to COVID-19.
“As a part of this exercise, syllabi for various subjects at the ICSE and ISC levels specifically for Classes X and XII, for the examination year 2022 were examined by subject experts to identify portions which may be reduced, without compromising on the quality of content”, the CISCE has said in its official notification.
“In addition to reduction of the syllabus at the ICSE (Class X) and ISC (Class XII) levels, tñe CISCE will follow' a different method conducting examinations for the academic year 2021-22”, added the notice.
First Semseter
The examination for the first semester will be conducted in November 2021 and will be based on the specified portion of the reduced syllabus. The examination will be MCQ-based which will be conducted online.
Second Semester
The second semester examination will be conducted in March/April 2022 and will be based on the portion of the reduced syllabus for the ICSE/ISC examination year 2022. This examination will be conducted in online/offline mode, depending upon the pandemic situation in the country.
Marks scheme for semester 1 and semester 2
The question papers for both semesters will consist of 80/100 marks for ICSE.
For the ISC, the question papers will be of 70/80 marks. The marks division will be based on the maximum marks currently allocated for the theory component of the subjects. However, the weightage of marks (for each of the semesters) to be finally used for computation of the board results would be brought down to half.

Practical/Project work
If the situation allows, the practicals for the ISC level will be conducted by the examiners who will set the practical question papers based on detailed guidelines and instructions of the council. In case the situation remains unchanged and the students will not be able to appear for the exams in schools, online/virtual mode will be practiced. Similarly, in addition to the semester examinations conducted by the CISCE during the academic year 2021-22, students will also be assessed on internal assessment at the ICSE level. The mark weightage of the same remains unchanged.
Uploading of marks for Practical/Project work
The respective schools must ensure that all the students should complete the practical/project work/internal assessment, as specified in the ICSE 10th and ISC 12th reduced syllabus. The same may be evaluated and marked by the visiting examiners (for ISC) /internal examiners (for ICSE), as per the existing practice. Schools will be required to upload marks for practical/project work/internal assessment/ SUPW grades on the portal at the end of the second semester, by a specified date.
