Cold Wave: Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, UP extend winter vacation; state-wise updates
Schools will remain closed for nursery to Class 8 in Chandigarh and Agra in Uttar Pradesh till January 20 and 18, respectively.

NEW DELHI: Punjab, Haryana, and several districts of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar have extended holidays for school students as cold wave and foggy conditions continue to grip northern states. The Delhi government has also changed school timings due to the adverse weather condition.
The Punjab education minister Harjot Singh Bains said winter holidays for students from nursery to Class 5 has been extended till January 21 in the wake of severe cold conditions prevailing across the state. He made the announcement on X, formerly known as Twitter. The state has also changed the timings of secondary and high schools. Bains added that regular classes will be conducted for Class 6 to 12 from 10 am to 3 pm .
The Chandigarh administration has also directed all government and private schools in the union territory to not hold physical classes for nursery to Class 8 students till January 20. The administration added that the schools may organise online classes for the students.
Haryana, UP updates
In the neighbouring state of Haryana, the government has extended the holidays for nursery to Class 3 till January 18. In Uttar Pradesh, district administration has extended the holidays in Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, Basti, Manipuri, Lucknow, Moradabad, Kanpur, Sambhal, Lakhimpur Kheri, Agra, Rampur, Balarampur and Bareilly. Schools from nursery and Class 8 will remain closed till January 16 in Lucknow, Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, Balrampur, Mainpuri and Bareilly.
In Rampur and Moradabad, will remain closed till January 20 while in Kanpur, Sambhal, Firozabad and Lakhimpur Kheri, the schools for these classes will be closed on January 17. The Agra administration has directed that the nursery to Class 8 will be closed till January 20.

Delhi school timing changed
As per instructions of Delhi government, schools have opened today. The timings have been changed and classes will be held between 9 am to 5 pm. In many, districts of Bihar schools will open tomorrow after winter vacation.
