Coronavirus: Advisories for schools from states, Centre

NEW DELHI: The West Bengal government on Wednesday issued an advisory to all schools to create awareness on how to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

The advisory contains details about the “Do’s and Don’ts” to be followed by the students including frequent handwashing and respiratory hygiene such as covering the mouth with a handkerchief while coughing or sneezing.

Students were also directed to consult a doctor and avoid travelling in case they have a cough or difficulty in breathing.

An information pamphlet released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare was attached with the notice.

On the same day, March 4, the Madhya Pradesh government reiterated a February 21 advisory to all schools on how to sensitize students on the prevention of coronavirus infection.

The council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) On March 6 put out a notice on the basic preventive measures of coronavirus. It also announced that hand sanitizers will be made available in every exam center.

Schools cautious

The minister for human resource development, Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ posted a set of instructions on social media.

Schools have been on high alert after 40 students were kept in an isolation ward after coming in contact with a patient tested positive for coVID-19.

On Thursday, Manish Sisodia announced that all primary schools will be shut till March 31 as a “precautionary measure” to contain the spread of coronavirus.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) had issued a circular on Wednesday allowing students to take face masks and sanitizers inside the examination halls. The CBSE board exams began on February 15.

The Karnataka government on February 29 had issued a circular directing schools to grant leave to students or staff suffering from cold or fever.

The circular asked school authorities to “ensure that students/teachers or any other staff with signs of fever cold and upper respiratory tract infections do not visit school do not attend school until symptoms subside.”

So far, 31 positive cases of coVID-19 have been detected in India. CoVID-19 is the disease caused by coronavirus.
