Coronavirus: All primary schools in Delhi to be shut till March 31

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Government on Thursday announced it was closing all primary schools till March 31 as a "precautionary measure" against COVID-19, the disease caused by coronavirus.

The order is applicable to all schools in Delhi, both government and private, as well as those run by Delhi's municipal bodies.

This was announced by Delhi’s deputy chief minister, Manish Sisodia through his official social media account.

"As a precautionary measure to prevent the possibility of spread of COVID-19 amongst our children, Delhi Government has directed immediate closure of all primary schools (Govt/ aided/ private/MCD/NDMC) till 31/3/20," Sisodia said.

The alarm was raised when one patient, a recent traveller to Italy, was discovered in Delhi and isolated. This was followed by a Noida school closing to be sanitised. Other schools followed. Then, on Wednesday night, Paytm announced that an employee in its Gurugram office had tested positive and that the office was being closed and sanitised.

So far, there have been 30 positive cases of CoVID-19 in India. The most recent patient was reported from Ghaziabad on Thursday.
