Coronavirus: Maharashtra announces early summer vacations for schools

NEW DELHI:The Maharashtra Government on Tuesday announced the end of the current academic year and early summer vacation for school students from April 14 as lockdown amid the COVID-19 pandemic continues.

The Narendra Modi government on April 14 had declared the extension of the nationwide lockdown to May 3 as coronavirus cases continue to increase each day.

The decision to start school vacations was announced by the government through a letter sent to the education commissionaire.

As reported by theHindustan Times, the letter says: “‘Students between Classes 1 and 9 should be promoted on the basis of their marks in the previous exams held. Schools can accordingly draw up their scores. For Class 10 SSC exam, the state board would come up with a marking scheme as the last paper - Geography has been cancelled.”

In the past week, States like Rajasthan, Odisha, West Bengal and Punjab have announced the beginning of summer vacation for school students.

Odisha announced the extension of summer vacations till June 17 while West Bengal announced vacations till June 10.

In Punjab, summer vacations were announced till May 10 and in Rajasthan till May 31 while Karnataka decided on the same for students upto class 6 till the new academic session commences.
