NEW DELHI: The Rajasthan Government has decided to postpone the university exams indefinitely due to ongoing COVID-19 lockdown. The lockdown began on March 25 as a measure to control the spread of coronavirus.

Rajasthan’s higher education department has declared summer vacations for all affiliated colleges of Rajasthan University from April 16 to May 30, 2020. A statement from the higher education minister, Bhanwar Singh Bhati, issued on April 12 says that the authorities are exploring possibility of holding final-year exams in June. Admissions will similarly take place after June 15.

“A committee has been formed under the Rajasthan University VC R K Kothari to review the situation and prepare a report on how to conduct exams when the situation will become normal,” said Bhati in the statement.

The decision of the committee will be applicable to both private and government institutes in the state.

College and university

Depending on the COVID-19 situation, the examination for final-year students of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes will take place in the first week of June.

The semester or yearly exam for first-year and second-year UG students and semester and annual exam of PG students will take place after June 15.

The admissions to graduation courses or entrance tests for admissions will take place after June 15 or after the announcement of Class 12 board results.

Due to delay in declaration of results, the students will be given provisional admissions into second and third-year and the academic sessions will be started. The exams were already postponed beyond the earlier announced lockdown period till April 14.

Promote Classes 9 and 11 students

The Rajasthan Government has decided to promote Class 9 and 11 students to the next class without examinations.

As per the order issued by Rajasthan’s secondary education department, the students will be promoted from Class 9 to Class 10 and from Class 11 to Class 12 on the basis of the marks scored in the half-yearly examination and their participation in co-curricular activities. School principals will hand over promotion certificates to students after the lockdown ends.

In line with government advisories on COVID-19 precautions, and ensuring safety of students and teachers under the prevailing coronavirus crisis, it will be decided if it is feasible to conduct the exams from the first week of June. All the pending examinations will be conducted when possible to do so.

The new academic session for the rest for the classes can be started from June 1.
