NEW DELHI: A product that eliminates personal contact with objects has been developed by an Indian institution, which can help the fight against the spread of coronavirus in a big way.
Transmission ofinfection from person-to-person through bare-hand contact or contaminated surfaces is considered one of the major reasons for the spread of COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus.
Researchers at the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research – Guwahati, or NIPER-G, has come up with a 3D-printed hands-free object that can be used to open or close doors, windows, drawers, refrigerator handles and so on, eliminating direct contact with that surface.
It can also be used to press elevator buttons, and laptop or desktop keyboards, including turning the switch buttons on and off.
Computer keyboards are some of the most germ-infested objects in houses, hospitals, factories and other buildings that lead to the spread of the virus.
Face shield
The user-friendly product’s prototypes could be developed fast and is also easy to clean with sanitizers or alcoholic disinfectant.
The researchers came up with the design after analysing how viruses spread through bare hands, an official statement said.
The institute’s directorU.S.N Murty said: “NIPER-G is committed to provide useful contributions-cum-solutions.”
Its researchers have also developed a 3D-printed antimicrobial face-shield to control the spread of novel coronavirus . It was designed after studying how viruses spread through mouth, eyes, nose and other body cavities.
The low cost face shield is easy to wear, sturdy easy to clean with sanitizers or alcoholic disinfectant
