COVID-19: Students to take TOEFL, GRE exams at home

NEW DELHI:Students will be allowed to take global exams such as the Test for English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) at home, the test conducting body, Educational Testing Service, informed through its website.

The body has also suspended all of its testing centres till April 11 in India. The at-home testing will be available in all countries except Iran and mainland China.

The decision was taken in the wake of the increasing number of COVID-19 cases caused by the coronavirus.

Srikant Gopal, Executive Director of the TOEFL Program toldPress Trust of India: "At-home solutions will now be worldwide for test takers who have been affected by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Both TOEFL and GRE will be taken home till the situation is conducive for tests to be conducted at centres”.

"Precautions are being taken to ensure that the tests students will take from home meet the highest standards for validity, reliability and security. These tests employ multiple best-in-class security measures that use both real-time human monitoring and artificial intelligence technology,” he added.

TOEFL and GRE are standardized global exams that are recognised in more than 150 countries.
