Covid-19: Telangana extends closure of schools till January 30, to curb fees in private colleges

NEW DELHI: Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao has decided to extend the holidays for all government, private schools, colleges and other educational institutions till January 30 due to the increase in Covid-19, Omicron cases in India, as per reports. Telangana chief minister convened a state cabinet meeting on Monday to review the Covid-19 situation and to discuss new initiatives.

The Telangana chief minister had earlier declared holidays for all educational institutions in the state from January 8 to 16. However, as the number of Covid-19 cases is rising, the state government has decided to extend the holidays.

In the meeting convened on Monday, the Telangana cabinet also decided to introduce the English medium in all government schools in the state from the academic year 2022-23 and regulate fee in private schools, junior and degree colleges.

The chief minister directed the minister of health and concerned authorities to expedite the Covid-19 vaccination programme in coordination with the municipal and panchayati raj departments. The state has already given 5 crore vaccination doses and will vaccinate all those who are eligible as soon as possible, the health minister Harish Rao Thanneeru, according to the Telangana chief minister’s office (CMO)

The cabinet also approved the proposal made by the state education minister Sabitha Reddy to set up a Women's University in the State of Telangana. The Cabinet directed the Chief Secretary to come up with full proposals for the next cabinet meeting.

The CMO said, the Telangana government is offering BSc Forestry (Hons) four-year degree course at the Forest College and Research Institute (FCRI) in Mulugu, Siddipet district. The cabinet has decided to make reservations in various departments under the direct recruitment quota in the recruitment of Forest Department jobs for eligible students.
