NEW DELHI: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has added two new subjects - fashion studies and tourism in the Common University Entrance Test - Undergraduate (CUET UG 2024) exam. The CUET UG 2024 exam will now be held for a total of 63 subjects - 33 languages, 29 domain-specific, and one general test.

The NTA has also answered frequently-asked questions (FAQs) on CUET, exam pattern, how to fill application form, admission process and subject-wise selection criteria. The NTA has introduced a major exam rejig this year.

The third edition of CUET exam 2024 will be held from May 15 in 380 exam cities including 26 cities outside India. However, the exam dates may be changed to avoid clash with the upcoming general elections. Also, the exam will be held in hybrid mode - computer-based test (CBT) and pen and paper mode - for the first time this year.

Applicants will be allowed to choose six subjects, including at least one language. The exam will be held in 3 shifts for a total duration of 45 minutes. However, for accountancy, economics, physics, computer science, informatics practices, chemistry, mathematics, applied mathematics subjects and general test, the duration of the test will be 60 minutes.

CUET UG 2024 : NTA answers FAQs

CUET UG 2024 syllabus - The entrance exam will be based on Class 12 syllabus. To address the diversity of students, they have been given a wide range of subject options. Moreover, the exam will be held in 13 languages - English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.

Is CUET UG compulsory for admission in central universities? Yes, students who wish to pursue higher studies in central universities must appear in the CUET exam. However, the admission will be granted based on the selection criteria announced by the individual universities.

CUET UG mode of exam - In a first, the NTA will conduct the UG entrance examination in hybrid mode. The question paper will comprise of objective-type questions.

What to do if a UG course is not available in the CUET UG application form? The NTA asked the candidates to check with the university where the course is offered to find out if admission to the specific course requires CUET score.

How to opt for Sanskrit, both as a language and domain specific subject -For the three central universities of Sanskrit, candidate studying any of the subjects in the field of Shastric traditional subjects may select Sanskrit (220) and/or Sanskrit (325) in the CUET application form. Also, candidates are advised to select the subjects as per mapping of universities.

Selecting participating universities - Candidates have been asked to opt the universities where they intend to apply to facilitate sharing of data post result declaration. However, several students and parents have taken to social media claiming that the online form has only the names of a few universities. Many said that Delhi University was not in the option.
