Dakshina Kannada Rain Holiday: Schools, Anganwadi, PU colleges to remain closed on July 25

The Dakshina Kannada district administration has declared a holiday for all anganwadi centres, schools and pre-university colleges on July 25. The order has been issued in view of the rainfall recorded across the district and the red alert announced by the weather department.

According to the announcement issued by the office of the deputy commissioner, the decision was taken by the District Disaster Management Authority based on the weather forecast and the rainfall recorded in the last 24 hours. The advisory includes all government, aided and private educational institutions.

Along with the closure of educational institutions, the administration has issued a set of instructions for residents. Parents have been asked to ensure that children do not visit low-lying areas, riverbanks, lakes or coastal stretches. Fishermen have been advised not to enter the sea until further notice.

“A holiday has been declared on July 25, 2025, for all anganwadi centres, primary and high schools, pre-university colleges, and government-aided as well as private educational institutions across the district. Parents are advised to ensure that children do not go near waterlogged areas, lakes, riverbanks, or seashores,” the notice said.

Relief centres to be opened across taluks

The notice further states that officials at the district and taluk levels have been directed to stay at their respective headquarters and continue monitoring the situation. They have also been instructed to carry out disaster response measures without delay.

Nodal officers deployed in various regions have been asked to stay in touch with the control room at the deputy commissioner's office and promptly address public complaints.

The district administration has also asked line departments to open relief centres in all taluks and keep them ready. Tourists and members of the public have been advised not to visit riversides or seashores during this period. “Tourists and the general public are advised not to visit riverbanks or coastal areas,” the notice said.
