NEW DELHI: After receiving several complaints, the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) Chairperson Swati Maliwal conducted a surprise inspection at four schools run by Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) only to find the dismal condition of schools.

In a shocking revelation, the DCW found that all the four schools were in dilapidated and unsafe condition and lacked proper security. Calling it “horror houses”, Swati Maliwal told ANI, “MCD is running schools where girls are forced to defecate in the open! So much so for the total sanitation campaign!”

“The staff of this school says that drug addicts and thieves enter the school. Teachers are doing chowkidari (guarding) for the safety of the children. The building is in bad shape, the roof can collapse at any time. Pictures of MCD school in Aruna Nagar area are disturbing. Is education only for the rich?” she wrote on Twitter.

Sharing images of the schools, she said, “On receiving complaints, decided to inspect Delhi's #MCDSchools .. See photos of this school.. The school building is dilapidated and can collapse at any time, 800 children are studying in such a school too. In school, addicts smoke charas, cigarettes, tobacco and liquor.”

Pointing out the glaring issues, she further said, “Saw in every school that the condition of the children is pathetic. These pictures of #MCDSchools testify to the crumbling education system of MCD. On the world stage, we give the slogan of Padhega India, but these slogans seem to be limited to luxurious offices with high walls.”
