NEW DELHI: Delhi's Aam Aadmi Party Government announced on February 29 that it is shutting all schools in the North East district till March 7.

This is being done keeping in mind "the mental state of the students and in order to help them come out of this traumatic situation". The district has seen violent rioting for four days that claimed the lives of over 40. Several schools were also burnt down, hundreds of homes and small businesses.

‘Tense and traumatised’

The circular, issued on Saturday, stated that both private and public schools will remain shut "due to the prevailing unfavourable conditions". If further says: "The situation is not conducive for the conduct of examinations in this area. The state of mind of the students may also be tense and traumatised leading to lack of concentration."

The internal annual exams stand postponed and the government will issue a new schedule "shortly".

The Central Board of Secondary Education, however, said on Thursday that board exams will be held as per schedule from Monday onwards.

Ensure safety

A private school and a few of its students had moved the Delhi High Court against the CBSE seeking a change of exam centre which is in the district and close to riot-hit areas. Kamal Gupta, the lawyer who represented them, told Careers360 that the Delhi Police and Government have been directed to ensure the 86 exam centres in the district are secure when student got back to write their exams on Monday.
