Delhi University to launch Masters’ in public health

NEW DELHI: The National Institute of Health and Family Welfare (NIHFW), which is affiliated to the Delhi University, has been given clearance by DU’s inspection committee to start a Masters’ in Public Health. According to the recommendations of the Inspection Committee, NIHFW can start the Masters’ course from the academic year 2023-24.

The recommendations are set to be tabled at the Delhi University Executive Council on April 10, 2023.

The DU Inspection Committee was tasked to look at whether the NIHFW had adequate infrastructure, faculty, laboratories,and other facilities, to start the course. The NIHFW has been given clearance to admit upto 20 students per year.

Delhi University has also formed two separate committees to look into setting up two new centres: Centre for Hindu Studies and Centre for Tribal Studies. Both committees were set up on January 12, 2023, with the South Delhi Campus Director Prakash Singh as chairperson.

The university has also resolved to admit two orphan children (one male and one female), in each programme of study, both at the undergraduate and postgraduate level. These two seats will be supernumerary.

The expenditure incurred for admission and continuance of study of these students, including hostel expenditure, will be met from the University Welfare Fund or College Students' Welfare Fund, respectively for admission in the university or one of its colleges.
