NEW DELHI: A notice on Delhi University reopening colleges from September 20 is doing rounds on social media. The University of Delhi clarified that the notice is fake.

“As Delhi government has allowed colleges to reopen from 1st September and keeping the benefits of students in mind, it has been decided to reopen all colleges of the University of Delhi from 20 September for second and third year students,” read the fake notice.

It also mentioned the COVID-19 guidelines to be followed by teachers and students and further said that students with one dose of vaccine will be allowed in the campus. Dismissing the claims, the university warned students against fake public notice that is being circulated.

In the latest update on Delhi University reopening, the DU registrar Vikas Gupta said that a decision on resuming physical classes will be taken after holding an internal meeting. He also said that the university was not ready to reopen from September 1. Whenever the colleges reopen, science students will be called first, he added.

Meanwhile, students have been requesting to reopen the university on social media. #reopendu was trending on Twitter. Students also used the hashtags to share the difficulties faced by them due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The university was shut since March last year. This year in February, final year students were allowed to return to colleges for accessing labs and take practical classes. However, the classes were suspended again in April due to the second wave of Covid-19.

The Delhi University had issued an official notification in August announcing that it would hold physical classes for Science stream students in view of a decline in coronavirus cases, however, it later deferred its decision.
