Dharmendra Pradhan hosts UGC workshop on Women Leaders for VIKSIT Bharat 2047

NEW DELHI: The union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan hosts a one-day workshop for women leaders from higher educational institutions. The programme was organised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and was held at Dogra Hall, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi.

According to the official UGC statement, the programme witnessed participation from over 724 women leaders from academic positions including the director, dean, head of department, registrar, finance officer, and controller of examinations across the country.

The programme aimed to empower leaders and acknowledge their contributions to academic and professional excellence.

UGC chairman Jagadesh Kumar highlighted the crucial link between women's leadership in academia and India's global aspirations and further emphasised that they need to take advantage of intellectual capacity of the nation. He also highlights the importance of diversity of thought, gender equity, and advancing sustainable development goals. He outlined the key initiatives under NEP 2020 which include the Gender Inclusion Fund, GATI, and Vidyanjali programme, to ensure a gender-inclusive education framework, the official UGC statement adds.

According to the official UGC statement, the programme included a combination of academic sessions, panel discussions, and interactive Q and A sessions for participants to gain insights and strategies to overcome challenges and excel in their roles.

The programme also covered other critical areas including governance, innovation and research, human resource management, networking, and financial planning. The event served as a platform to share best practices, build supportive networks, and promote gender equity in academia, the official UGC statement said.

Dharmendra Pradhan expressed his gratitude to the participants for attending the programme. He further emphasised the importance of equity and inclusion in NEP 2020.

Dharmendra Pradhan also highlighted India's historical recognition of women's roles and the significance of govt initiatives such as providing basic facilities, opening bank accounts, and launching the Women's Reservation Bill, the official UGC statement adds.
